Welcome!

You have entered the Lamar Viking 7 on 7 web site and we thank you for taking the time to visit. Like Lamar regular season football, the Viking 7on7 program has enjoyed much success in its TEN years of existence. In that time we have grown from one varsity team in 1998, to annually fielding five separate teams for entering 9 thru 12th grade players.

The Vikes are at STATE in College Station!

Coaches Corner June 20, 2009:

The Vikings traveled to Tyler Saturday and ran their winning streak to 14 games in a row with three victories Saturday. As expected, the
third game against Tyler Lee was a very competitive game with both
teams playing very well. The difference was the Viking defense forced
three possession turnovers and Lamar prevailed 42-35. This was a
rematch of the State Quarterfinal game of a year ago that was also
tightly contested and also won by the Vikes.

In the first game Lamar defeated Dallas Conrad 27-7; in the second
game the Vikes beat Longview Pine Tree 35-13.

Next week the Vikes will be off from tounament action and will begin
preperation for the State Tournament July 10-11th in College Station.

I want to mention to everyone what a super job our student and parent assistant coaches are doing this year. Lawrence Idiata and Harrell Hicks both played for me and have now coached for two seasons. Julian Steward and Quin Jones just graduated from Lamar and were key players on last summer's state semifinalist Lamar team. The 4 of them run our defense. On offense, son Michael Poynter and like son Travis Smith are likewise doing a great job and have really been instrumental in our success. Great job all u guys! Steve Villareal has coached with me for a number of years and does a great job every year. Brian Bader stepped up to the plate and took on our Gold team and has done a great, great job as well. Thanks to all of u for your volunteered time and effort.

If you want to follow 7 on 7 statewide please visit the old
coach.com web site.

And speaking of great jobs I will update our web master Jay Ryan (you know him as the voice of Lamar football on the PA system at Cravens) who like wise donates his time to update this website, during the state tournament so you can follow the Vikes on this site.

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Lamar 7 on 7 program is to develop through repetition under tournament conditions, throwing, catching and coverage skills that have a positive carry over into the regular football season and play offs.  This must be balanced with recognition that it is the summer, with other activities (weight lifting, family vacations, work schedules and just time off) having priority as well. Finding the right mix to achieve this mission is the responsibility of the head coach, with input from the assistant coaches, players and the Arlington Lamar Coaching Staff.

We are an all volunteer group of coaches and parents working together to help the 7 on 7 team members achieve the Mission. All of our funding is private and we would welcome your financial assistance in keeping these young men focused and working together all summer long to achieve their goals. If you have any questions about the Lamar 7 on 7 program, please feel free to contact me at any time. Enjoy the site!
