Lamar
Viking History in 7 on 7 State Tournaments
According to Dave Campbell’s Texas
Football, The Lamar Vikings are one of only two teams in the
State out of 1350+ high schools that has qualified for the
State 7 on 7 Championship Tournament each of the eleven
years of its existence. In those eleven
Championship Tournaments, Lamar has finished tied for 3rd
four times out of 64 teams. In 1998, 2003 and 2004 Lamar’s
only loss was to the eventual State Champion. The last 7
years Lamar has knocked on the door, three times
finishing tied for 3rd and going 27-9 in State
Tournament games against some of the best high school
passing games in the state. Below is a recap of each year.

MISSION STATEMENT
|
|
The mission of the Lamar 7 on
7 program is to develop through repetition under tournament
conditions, throwing, catching and coverage skills that have
a positive carry over into the regular football season and
play offs. This must be balanced with recognition that it
is the summer, with other activities (weight lifting,
family vacations, work schedules and just time off) having
priority as well. Finding the right mix to achieve this
mission is the responsibility of the head coach, with input
from the assistant coaches, players and the Arlington Lamar
Coaching Staff. |

Max
Emfinger National Championship Tournament
Until 2007 when the first true National
Championship event will be held in Hoover, Alabama under the
direction of the National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA),
the Max Emfinger Tournament was perhaps the premier
tournament in the country gathering teams from the south and
the southeastern United States for a two day tournament. The
event has been held 4 times with Lamar High School capturing
the “mythical” National Title two of the four years of the
tournament’s existence and the only multi-year winner.
